3.1L runs much to fast

Hi,

A friend of mine has a prob with his 1991 Bird. The engine starts immediately but runs at approx 2000-2400 rpm, when pushing the accelerator it runs faster but never returns under 2000 rpm. The ECM has been checked and no errors were found. 8o

Can anybody help ?? advice ??

broken EGR pipe ?
(false air!)
or sticking IAC!

Has any work been done on it lately? Does it have a Distributor? Timing could be alittle off.

Yeah, this is what has been done:

His Bird had a broken engine, ran without oil and has blocked completely. So he searched for an other 3.1 and found one at a Firebird specialist which pulled it out of a crashed car- but the engine ran great !!
So he put this engine into his car and got this problem ;( So everthing has been checked and double checked but no reason can be found...

there is a screw in the throttlebody to adjust the platestop for minimum idle!
I think it's too wide open, or the IAC is bad / sticking in it's housing?

Can you test the engine/ecm with a scantool?

Is it the right PROM for this engine (automatic / manual)?

The ECM was empty when read by flashing SES methode, no scantool available for the moment.

I have to ask him for the PROM...
